  • Issue#14046: Linux - openSuse Leap installer gets stuck or doesn't load

I have been preparing to perform a major upgrade and HDD replacement at the same time. While waiting for the hardware to arrive, I have been downloading and burning all the iso's that I expect to need. I have downloaded the openSuse Leap X86-64 iso twice and the boot from dvd fails at the same place each time. -checksums ok, -media boots and verify media ok when done in a different machine -openSuse 13.2 i586 DVD gets to the partitioning part of the install at which point I bail out. When booting from the Leap x64 DVD there is a green progress bar that runs along the bottom of the screen. It gets stuck when that reaches 100%. I left it for 20 minutes last night just in case it was a bit slow. Does any one know which point in the start up this or is there any way to get some verbose messages up on the screen so that I can see what is happening? At this point I am suspecting that something in my machine does not like 64 bit even though the CPU (Pentium D 820) and chipset (intel

  • Issue#14047: Linux - Remove network drive entry from GTK-based file manager

Hi all, about a year ago I added a network drive (via webdav / davfs) to my desktop Linux. As far as I can remember, I added the necessary line in /etc/fstab und created a secrets file in my HOME-directory under .davfs with the login credentials. The server has changed and I realized that I don't really need the network drive mapped to my desktop computer anymore, so I wanted to remove it. I deleted the corresponding line in /etc/fstab, renamed the secrets file to secrets-OLD and checked whether there was any reference to the network drive in the webdav configuration file .davfs.conf (There was none). For some reason in the GTK-based graphical file managers NAUTILUS (it's called FILES for some reason at least in the German version) and NEMO, but not QT-based DOLPHIN the network drive is still shown in the side pane. I couldn't find a way to remove it from the list. I guess that in some GNOME configuration file there is still a reference to it. I looked through the settings in the dc

  • Issue#59594: Linux - openSUSE LEAP 42.1 install problem

Have also a strange [never before in decade] install problem with 42.1; after download, burn and verify, and start of install [got screen where select ‘installation’] and see that it has finished loading the Linux kernel, it goes to black & white scrolling script and then ends [cursor blinking at bottom of screen]; no further screen or install progress. First time it ended at line : ‘[0.253117] PCI:using config type 1 for bass access’ After that first time it stalled 3 times in row at: ‘[0.44494] Timer: vector = 0x38 apic=0 pin1=2 apic2=-1 pin2=-1’ Should mention that initial laptop [Itronix VR2] b&w [not LEAP OS] screen has: 1. Legacy (isolinux) Select CD-ROM Boot type: (put in the 1 and Enter and starts install process). Installing on General Dynamics GoBook VR2 [Intel Centrino duo] Would it help to input various kernel options?

  • Issue#66834: Linux - Can I add an input text-file to a script?

I found a really helpful script that allows YT vids to be downloaded via wget. It is good if you don't have root access to install youtube-dl. The thing is I don't know if I can use a text file as input for URL's. Here is the URL for the author the name of the script is usage is as follows: Code: youtube_wget.dl "" The quotations on the URL are necessary. What I want to do is input the URL's into a text file and then run the command to go through the files. I could make a list of just the unique video code after the equal "=" sign if that would make it possible. If this is possible how would I do it?

  • Issue#261699: Linux - swap file and partition reboot issue with free cmd

I had a standard CentOS 7 partition layout with /boot, /, /var, and swap (2G) partitions carved out. So the free cmd showed me that I had 2G total. As a test, I added roughly 500MB more swap through a swap file: Code: # free # dd if=/dev/zero of=/extra-swap bs=1M count=500 # mkswap /extra-swap # swapon -a # free At this point, the free command returned same amount, roughly 2G. So I added the swap file to my fstab to make it persistent then rebooted: Code: # vim /etc/fstab ... /extra-swap          swap        swap      defaults 0 0 ... # reboot Upon reboot, the free cmd now showed 2.5G My question is, why did free not show the swap until reboot? Ideas and / or better ways to do this? SK

  • Issue#494060: What Linux file manager can show images in sort list order?

I have recently started using Linux instead of WinXP, but unfortunately I have not yet been able to find a file manager which does something which I took for granted in Windows Explorer and regard as essential. The feature that Windows Explorer does as standard but which no Linux file manager does, to my knowledge, is to show images in the sort order. So if you have a directory of photos, put them in list view, sort them by date order, then click on one of them, then click "next", then in Windows Explorer (with whatever image viewer it uses) the next image you see will be the photo with the next date. Frustratingly, I have tried several Linux file managers and all of them will only show the next photo which is the next in alphabetical order, regardless of how you have them sorted in the file manager. I think there was one Linux image viewer for which you could display images in date order if you went into Preferences, but it was impossible to get it to display the files i
