Issue#14545: Ubuntu - [SOLVED] gscan2pdf 15.10

  • As I have read in various fora, gscan2pdf -or better sane and it's libs - can give some problems with scanning over Wifi. I ran into this problem with the update to 15.04 which I solved by first uninstalling all sane software and then reinstall some older version (I believe 1.024).
A short while ago I ran into the same problem after an update in 15.10 (to 4.0.25 kernel). My Pixma 560 scanner stopped working.
After an extensive search on the internet I found a possible solution stating that installing a newer (experimental) version of libsane and dependent libraries could help.
So again I removed all sane libraries (with the exclusion of the scanner specific software) and replaced them with the experimental 1.0.26 versions. That solved my problem, but still I think it is strange that a kernel update broke the sane libraries or something.
At least I have now again a working scanner over Wifi.

  • Issue#2164: Ubuntu - VPN issue (Astrill)

So weird issue here... Trying out Kubuntu for the first time (15.04) and as I live in China I need a VPN to access, well, anything useful. Astrill works fine at first, went to their site, downloaded the deb and installed it and it works fine except for one thing: It only works with the account I was using when I installed it. I installed it using my Admin account, and then switched to a regular user account, no luck. If I launch it, the icon bounces like it's launching and then nothing. I tried launching it with a second admin account..same thing. If I reinstall it in the second account, it launches but then the original account cannot use it. So basically, any time I wish to switch accounts I need to reinstall the package? That's weird. Anyone heard of anything like this before? FWIW, I have had similar issues with various codecs. Video plays fine, but only for the account that I used to install the media player with. (mainly for SMplayer) Help?

  • Issue#3211: Ubuntu - [PPC] sound on a cube- hopefully solved

My jessie/xfce cube has been too quiet... so I had to get the sound working. This led me down a bunch of red herrings of trying to understand what was going on with the soundcard driver, snd-powerpc, etc. Then I realized... there is no card on the board! It's all done through the speakers. So that wobbly path led me to: sudo apt-get install alsa-base alsa-utils blacklist as desribed in In /etc/modprobe.d/ (mine had a alsa-base-blacklist.conf) blacklist snd-aoablacklist snd-aoa-fabric-layout blacklist snd-aoa-soundbus blacklist snd-aoa-i2sbus blacklist snd-aoa-codec-tas At one point, I had put in /etc/modules a line for snd-powermac. It's actually not needed, so I commented it out. Here is where you make it all work. Alsa installs the usb module/driver just fine, (at least for me), so one would think it would be ok. The problem is that it assigns the usb driver to the wrong slot, as it assumes that you have an onboard card. So

Jan 25, 2016 On January 23, 2016 TD Ameritrade / ThinkorSwim was updated to Version 1880.62 and part of that update was to require ThinkorSwim to run on Java Version 8.x on Linux Operating Systems. I'm currently running Linux Lite 2.6 (based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) on my machine, and this morning when I fired up ThinkorSwim, it just hung at the "Updating Software" screen and never progressed any further. After going to the ThinkorSwim Support Site, I found that part of the update was a new requirement for Linux to have Java 8.x installed on the PC, and to tell ThinkorSwim to use it from now on. Here is the link to the ThinkorSwim Technical Document for January 23, 2016. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "Open the Technical Notes" to see the full document and instructions. The full Linux instructions can be found at the bottom of the page, and I have also pasted them below for your convenience. In short, I performed these steps and the ThinkorSwim Tradin

My laptop is an Asus q552 (which also has other models #'s for same hardware will find and add) its running a 6th gen i7 dual core nvidia geforce 940m optimus and an integrated intel vga card. Anyone who doesnt know allready optimus is the retarded idea of glueing a nice vga card like say an Nvidia and glueing onto an integrated intel card using bubblegum and ducktape all in the name of saving power. I dont care for usuing the integrated card so this howto wont show that. First after spending waaay to much time trying to get the 4.2 stock kernel in Wily (and also 4.3 custom) to work with just the Nvidia card this is what i found; THE PROBLEM; in the beggining I could boot one in 7 times without it going to a black screen, everything was booted and working just couldnt see it. The tutorials I found didnt help but eventually I could boot something like 50/50 with newer kernels (IE 4.2 4.3) using a specific xorg.conf and %100 of the time on any 3.19 or 4.0 kernels. So theres a regression

  • Issue#19807: Ubuntu - performance issue woth 15.10

Hi, i just recently got a new HD and installed 15.10 but it is incredibly slow. The widows take about 3-5 seconds to appear and the text is way behind what I am typing...and I am a terrible typer..... heres my set up: Intel Pentium 4 3 Gz 4 GB ram Gforce 5200 wired connection I have tried many installs over the past 3 days and cannot get the problem solved. The closest I got was installing the LXDE on top of 15;10 and it seemed to work ok, but some of the panel buttons would not work. Namely the shutdown/restart...I tried some fixes, got it royally jacked up, installed yet again. Obviously I am not an advanced user, but it seems from what I have read that this setup should run 15 ok. I think there is an issue with the video card (see, told ya) as well as the driver for the processor. (It was spiking 85-100 while I was just looking for answers online). I am not gaming on this, I just wanted to use this old box for something fun and useful -- it is now the opposite of both....

  • Issue#20915: [ubuntu] Audio-CD playback issue

I've recently installed Ubuntu 16.04 from the daily releases. Largely all is good, but one noticeable problem is playing audio CDs: there is an audible, strong "buzz" through which some aspects of the expected music can faintly -- and choppily -- be heard. I've tried this both with Rhythmbox and Goobox with the same results. FLAC files etc. play back without problem, and normal audio playback from other sources (system sounds, YouTube videos etc.) is fine, so it's not a general audio problem, but something specific to do with CDs. I'm not sure what could be wrong, or which package I should report a bug against -- could anyone advise? My system is a ThinkPad T420 with a built-in CD/DVD player (can look up further details if that would be useful). Thanks in advance for any advice/feedback.

  • Issue#26590: Ubuntu - [SOLVED] 14.04 libnl update broke Network Manager and Network

I had the "pre-released updates" box checked in my software updates. When I did an update yesterday and rebooted, I lost wired/wireless networking and Network Manager wouldn't start. Code: dmesg | grep network-manager kept showing segfaults. I tried various things, but nothing worked until I manually rolled back the update. I had to download the previous versions of libnl (see the following log file) from on another computer and transfer them via flashdrive then install them with Code: sudo dpkg -i *.deb I got my networking back after that. Code: LOGFILE Commit Log for Thu Jan 28 16:18:10 2016 Upgraded the following packages: libnl-3-200 (3.2.21-1) to 3.2.21-1ubuntu1 libnl-genl-3-200 (3.2.21-1) to 3.2.21-1ubuntu1 libnl-route-3-200 (3.2.21-1) to 3.2.21-1ubuntu1 Hope this helps anyone with the same problem.

  • Issue#35326: Mike issue still not solved?

I have been having this issue since yesterday. I have looked through the forums and posted on a few to try and find a legitimate solution for this issue. Using WTFast is not a real solution but a work around that we should not have to do to play a game/beta that was pre-ordered. I am just wondering if I have missed something somewhere or if those of us with the Mike issue will just not get to play in the beta. I would just really like to hear something official about this. ( I have done all port forwarding, router/Modem resetting with no results. The odd thing is I can play on my Xbox One in the same house but not on my PC) Using WTFast does allow me to connect but my trial unfortunately expired yesterday (due to MHO) and I am not paying another company to play in beta.

  • Issue#40115: Ubuntu - [SOLVED] Make GTX 970 use MSI based interrupts = Better Performance!

All, not a problem to be solved just sharing some info to help others possibly, I'm sure the comments will tell me if this is old news ;-) I use PCI passthrou for a number of devices...GFX but also DVB and PSTN/FXO. I've recently upgrade by old GFX card from an NVIDIA GTX 650 to a 970, as part of the change I moved the cards around the PCI slots and noticed some changes in my linux config. The first observation was that my DVB card was using an MSI based interrupt (nothing new here I don't think) but my new GFX card wasn't, it was using INTx...I'd not noticed any performance issues with this however the problem was that the interrupt it was using as INTx conflicts with an interrupt my PSTN/FXO card needs. The PSTN card is an older standard which doesn't support INTx, the bugger needs the entire interrupt to itself, so when my 970 mapped the same interrupt it essentially meant my Elastix VM which has the PSTN card passed through couldn't start. Anyways the above observations caused me

I didn't noticed anything different from Ubuntu without Intel Graphics and/or with Intel Graphics. Next I ran, VMWare Workstation 12 and Installed Windows 8.1 x86 guest OS in it.
