  • Issue#380124: Tableau - Calculation for total using date parameter

Hi All,  I hope you are well. I've got myself really stuck with a calculation on a workbook and wondered if you can help. Basically I want to produce a display that has running totals of 2 values over time - one is based on cost and the other on energy usage in 4 locations. I've managed to get the cost part of the panels change in value depending on the date range picked, however I'm really stuck on being able to do this for the energy part of the board. I've attached a workbook where I've tried lots of different things. I've used an LOD calc on the energy part that was kindly given to me on this forum. However this fixes the value between min and max dates on the workbook. If possible I would like the energy readings to change based on date range the same way that the cost part does. I then looked at using date parameters instead but have been unable to get anything with parameters to work. Really hoping someone can help out with this one.   Scr

  • Issue#63906: Tableau - Change date axis based on a parameter

I have a chart that shows sales over time. I have 3 sales measures (which I cannot change) that are current sales, QTD sales, and YTD sales. I have successfully created a parameter and a calculated field that pick the right measure depending on if the user selects current, QTD or YTD. The problem:My x-axis (date field) doesn't change to reflect the time period. Is it possible to have the x-axis only show month when current, quarters when QTD and years when YTD? Can I do this the same way as I did for my measure if I create custom date fields? Thanks in advance!

  • Issue#73981: Tableau - Month over month and Year over year calculation with arrow up down-with date filter

Hi,I have been searching for answer to what I want to do.  A lot of thread came close to what I need but not quite.  I saw a lot of samples to use table calculation on what I want to do but table calculation doesn't allow me to be able to use date as filter.  Basically, what I want to show on dashboard is a simple table that looks like this. I don't want to show date on the row but rather show some other dimension so table calculation won't work.  Also, I want to be able to just filter by month. Any help or suggestions are much appreciated.Thank you

  • Issue#218229: Tableau - Date filter created with table calculation applying to multiple sheets

I have created a dashboard with two worksheets (two maps, as in USA/Alaska) and three filters. I want those three filters to action on both sheets. I can do it with two of them with the Apply to worksheets.. option. But for the third one, as I used it for years to get difference between values, I created it with a calculated field LOOKUP(ATTR(YEAR([Date Order])),0). So there is no Apply to worksheets option. So the USA map applied year is selected with that filter, but Alaska remains in the first one. Any workaround?  Thank you so much.

  • Issue#328644: Tableau - Parameter Maximum date from field on server source

I have several calculated fields that I am using to determine if data fits into a rolling periodi.e. Rolling 2 months  isDATEADD('month',-2,[Max date in Discharge Date FY]) <=DATETRUNC('month',([Discharge Date FY])) AND [Discharge Date FY] <=[Max date in Discharge Date FY] The calculation is currently referencing a parameter set up like this:The downside is that each month when the data source (on a tableau  Server) is updated, I have to come in and manually change this value. I was looking for a way to get it to do that automatically and have an idea but wondered if anyone thinks it will work. If I change that parameter to be set to:Where I chose "Set from Field" and selected a date field in my source. Would it always register as the current max date or when the data source is updated will the parameter know to read the maximum date from the field and thus pass through the right date to my calculated fields?  I hope I explained that clearly.

  • Issue#376311: Tableau - Latest value calculation by customer id and date

From a set of customer data, I'm looking to find the last purchase in 2015 and the last purchase in 2016 and find the difference between the two. For example, in the attached workbook customer 5687 made two purchases in 2015 ($114.11 in February and $100.98 in August) and one purchase in 2016 ($82.88 in March). What I'm looking to accomplish in this example is to calculate $100.98 - $82.88, and for that same calculation to happen across the entire dataset. In some cases, customers will only have purchases in 2015, and in other cases customers will only have purchases in 2016. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! Joel

Hi all, I've spent the last few days working on trouble ticket data, using the excellent FAQ on open/close dates.  But, I've got a twist on the issue that I can't figure out.  I can count the number of open tickets, but I also need to count the number of tickets that are open, and have been open more than X days (where X will likely be 14 and 90, but which is 2 in the attached for simplicity). I've attached a simplified workbook to show what I want.  the basic open tracking sheet is working for open ticket.  If it was working, I would want another page that would show 1 overdue at the end of 1/2, 2 at the end of 1/3, 1 on 1/4, 1 on 1/5, and 0 on 1/6.  the actual data source will be an SQL database, but I'm using excel for this example. Since i have to track this at the individual ticket level, I'm not sure how to track that over time, or how to handle dates that don't exist in the data, like 1/5.  Any help would be REALLY helpful. • Issue#499975: Tableau - Setting Multiple Date Ranges for a Calculation

Hello, Is it possible to have a calculation run based on different parameters and show each of the results in a table? Right now we have a list of what we consider to be a "Lost Customer", however we would like to track the units purchased from the month which they were considered to be a lost customer, which would be 0 to the months where they purchased units. I would like to calculate a lost customer at different intervals. So for example, lost customers at 1/1/2016, 2/1/2016 and 3/1/2016. We do not worry about days, only the month of purchase.  So I am trying to figure out if I can run a calculation based on a max date range each time.  Is there a way to set a "Max Date" for a calculation to run on? This is the formula for a lost customer: - the ordering factor is just a buffer.  So if a customer orders every 3 months on average, if the ordering factor is set to 2, it will look to see if that customer has not ordered in 6 months. IF ([# Times

Hi - apologies if this is a straightforward question but my 2 hrs of googling hasnt been successful.  I am looking to put a filter in to show only the last x records from the most recent record date. The dataset i am using (salesforce opportunities and activities) brings in all past activities for each opportunity. Some have 20+ activities which makes it hard to look at so I would like to only show the most recent 3 or 5 activities related to that opportunity.MAX date filters it fine on the subject (some have the same subject) but ultimately when i expand out that it brings in all the other activities.(couple of screenshots below and table to indicate how i currently have it laid out Was hoping to put a filter in to simply say "Give me the last x records based on the most recent date" any help greatly appreciated  With the max date filter  when subject is expanded out to reveal more detail (brings in all tasks)Perfect world would just be most recent

  • Issue#589911: Tableau - Custom Date showing values in Running Total for future months in YTD calculation

Hello, I have a complex problem, which I am hoping someone can help me solve. I attached a workbook that uses the sample data set to help illustrate the problem. Here's the scenario: I am using a date, which has a fiscal year that starts in October. However, sometimes the data needs to be displayed by the actual calendar year, so I created a calculated date from the Order Date (called 'Order Date (Fiscal)'). I then need to create a YTD calculation based on the Order Date (Fiscal), but in order for the calculation to function properly with the fiscal year, I created 2 additional dates using a DATEADD function that add 3 months to the Order Date and TODAY(), titled Fiscal Date and Fiscal Date Today Respectively. The two YTD calculations are titled 2014 YTD Quantity and 2013 YTD Quantity. I have the two YTD calculations on a line graph over months of the year with a running_sum table calculation applied. My problem is this; the line graph extends through June, July, August,

  • Issue#592442: Tableau - Year over Year Calculation via Date Parameters

My Business Need has me perplexed as to how best achieve year over year analysis with an adjustable date filter. We want to see what categories have grown by a custom year over year date range specified by the user. Our business model is retail, which means local events can affect traffic and volume more than national, date specific events (i.e. beginning of the fiscal quarter). Attached is example of what I am doing, I may be approaching this the wrong way. I have looked through many posts and have not identified a need similar to mine which would address this. I also met with a "Tableau Doctor", though that individual was not a real help outside of suggesting parameters over straight date filters. The Filtered tab allows the user to select the date range with the data structured similar to how it feeds into our Tableau Server Datasource. The Prior Year tab shows 2012's numbers and Current year tab shows 2013's. My goal is to get (if filtered to 1/1/2013-2/28/2013 via Parame

Hi Everyone, I've been struggling with calculating Fiscal YTD, QTD and MTD for my reporting (Calculation I need include: Fiscal YTD, QTD, MTD. Previous QTD and MTD, Prior Year YTD, QTD and MTD)I read numerous forums and still wasn't able to make it work. The problem is my Fiscal month is not equal to calendar month and may have anywhere from 27-35 days in it. For example April has 28 days and June has 35 days in it.So far I've been using today () as my comparable period but due to a different fiscal month structure it's not working the way it should be. My fiscal year starts in Fiscal month of April.Attached is excel file with all Date dimension i created in Tableau.I'm looking for something that would allow me to create YTD, QTD and MTD as True or False calculation like below: Fiscal YTD: year([Fiscal Date])=year(dateadd('year',1,today()))And  [Calendar Date]<=today() Thanks a lot for your help with this! Olga

  • Issue#614495: Tableau - Trying to produce a list of records at a date, based on entries in 2 date fields

Hi, I hope someone can help. I've been told to use Tableau to produce a report listing email addresses for people in a particular placement (job role at a particular site, essentially) at a date the user selects. Eg, someone might want a list of people and their email addresses for people in placements at 1 April 2016. Or 31 July 2016. Or 1 January 2016 for that matter. So we want to put a report on the server which allows them to access the report, select a date they want to see data for, and return the results which they can then export into Excel.  I know Tableau is perhaps not the most appropriate reporting tool for this task but its all we have for now. I have a dataset of 70000+ rows (the packaged workbook attached here has only a small set from this) with people and their current placements going back several years. There's a location, start date and end date for each placement, as well as the name and email address of the person concerned (along with lots of other col
