Issue#86: Tableau - Additional date time number formats

  • I calculate time variances in some of my KPI dashboards that result in negative time values (e.g. if a procedure starts early it will be a negative variance from the planned time). Extending the custom number formats to allow for things like this would be great: "h:mm:ss;(h:mm:ss)". I currently have to color encode the values to be able to tell the difference between positive and negative values.

It would also be great if this format worked like it does in Excel: "[h]:mm:ss". The brackets allow the hours to extend beyond a base 24 hour period. Currently 25 hours renders as "1:00:00". With my proposed format it would render as "25:00:00".

[A related feature request is to support an actual TIME data type, that idea is at http://community.tableau.com/ideas/3315.]

This device has a very strange date & time issue (maybe multiple issues). Auto time/date will not automatically detect the timezonewill not automatically adjust to the correct time Maintain time/date the time will count upwards as normal until the screen is locked for roughly 10 minutes (sleep)once the device resumes from sleep (unlock) it will display the time that was registered immediately prior to sleeping - and will continue to count upwards as normal from there Manually setting time/date when manually setting the date & time, the day/month scroll will sporadically change - for example: above the selector bar will show 9 May, below the bar will show 11 May but inside the bar will show 26 Oct (all just example dates).when scrolling through the dates, the day/month will magically meld into the incorrect sequence of day/monthoften the 'set date & time' will jump forward or backward by as much as 30 years or more (sometimes also resetting to Unix Epoch)often the scro

I'm new to Tableau and I have two number number fields that contain Year and Month (i.e. 2015 and 12) and I want to combine them into a single date field (ie. Dec 2015). Not sure how to do this. Thinking that I would concatenate them and Dateparse them? Thanks.

  • Issue#322862: Tableau - For a given Date, Display UUser-defined number of Past and Future Dates

Hi guys,  We need to display forecast numbers on a line chart with data updated until yesterday's values (refreshed automatically) We want to provide the user the ability to select the number of days to display in the past and in the future. For example, given the date 3/20, if the user selects '20' on the past date parameter and 10 on the future date parameter the line chart should display values from 3/1 to 3/30 Is there a way we could go about doing this using parameters?   Thanks!

  • Issue#335067: Tableau - How to aggregate data into a number using calculated fields and date filtering to compare

Hello, Thanks in advance for taking the time to read/answer this post! Essentially I have 2 numbers, where both numbers are calculated using the same calculated field. The only extra step that changes these numbers would be a date filter to alters the period. The first number looks at the previous 12 months from today; whereas, the second number looks at the 12 months before that. (extra detail: the filter is a calculated field that will filter automatically based on the current day). Currently, I need to create two sheet in order to show these two numbers because the date filter needs to be pulled into the filter shelf to restrict the period of each sheet. I'd like to create another sheet to be able to get the % change and a sheet to get the difference between these two numbers but I'm not able to do anything that does this. Any thoughts? Cheers,Aiden

  • Issue#407361: Set date/time issue on BT 7610

My parents are having a problem setting the date and time on their BT 7610 handset system - since the clocks changed for DST. Using the menu to get to date/time allows them to change the time, and then when trying to change the date it displays as 126/00/201 and then changes to 12/00/0000.  When they try to enter a new date - for example 04 / 04 / 2016 it does not allow the second '4' digit to be entered. After this neither the date nor time is changed. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Issue#421015: Tableau - Splitting metrics by time chunks when only start/end date are in data source

Hi all, I am trying to do something that might not be possible using only Tableau. I have a dataset containing 5 columns: - Rental Order ID- Rental Product Name- Rental Order Start Date- Rental Order End Date- Rental Order Revenue  Orders usually span over 50-90 days (so 1.5 to 3 months). I would like to display the revenue generated by months, knowing that the 'daily revenue of an order' (or 'rate') is  [ Revenue Rental Order ] / DATEDIFF('day', [ Rental Order Start Date ], [ Rental Order End Date ])  Changing the data source is not an option . I attached a sample. Ideally I would like to end up with something like, with, if possible, dynamic dates that can be grouped by days/months/quarter/year. Thanks a lot for any ideas.

  • Issue#462940: Tableau - another open/close date issue: overdue tickets, aka count # of tickets open more than X da

Hi all, I've spent the last few days working on trouble ticket data, using the excellent FAQ on open/close dates.  But, I've got a twist on the issue that I can't figure out.  I can count the number of open tickets, but I also need to count the number of tickets that are open, and have been open more than X days (where X will likely be 14 and 90, but which is 2 in the attached for simplicity). I've attached a simplified workbook to show what I want.  the basic open tracking sheet is working for open ticket.  If it was working, I would want another page that would show 1 overdue at the end of 1/2, 2 at the end of 1/3, 1 on 1/4, 1 on 1/5, and 0 on 1/6.  the actual data source will be an SQL database, but I'm using excel for this example. Since i have to track this at the individual ticket level, I'm not sure how to track that over time, or how to handle dates that don't exist in the data, like 1/5.  Any help would be REALLY helpful. I've been

  • Issue#531416: Tableau - Date formats within calculated fields

How do you set date formats within a calculated field for use a by a parameter with 'Day', 'Week' and 'Month'? I currently have these set as Datename. I require my axis to show these formats: 'dd/mm/yyyy' for day, 'yyyy/ww' for week and 'mmm-yy' for month.

  • Issue#569194: Tableau - Average Number Of Records Over Time

I've created a couple of filters to show me active employees over a date range, but now I'm wondering if I can get this to show me an average over the selected period of time instead of a total count. Whenever I change it to aggregate as an average I always just get 1 - which is not correct. I think it's because the system doesn't have enough data to look at. I believe I need to first get it to give me a total active headcount per day and then average off of that. The only problem is figuring out how to get it to give me an average headcount by day! My filter to pull only active team members looks like this:IF[Hire Date]<=[End Date]ANDISNULL([Termination Date])THEN 'Active'ELSEIF [Hire Date]>[End Date]OR [Termination Date]>=[Start Date]THEN 'Termed'END I just want to get it to show me actual headcount for every single day so I can average over spans of time. Hope this makes sense!

  • Issue#600067: Tableau - Is it possible to use parameters to control multiple number formats within a sheet of meas

I have an attached workbook where I'd like to use a parameter to adjust whether a # or % is shown. Unfortunately it seems that when inputting a "when" statement, the formatting is not flexible for a % vs a #. Are there any workarounds to doing this? Thanks in advance!

  • Issue#609113: Tableau - Number of Current Customers over Time

Hello All - I'm trying to get a handle on how to report customer Account Status over time. In my business, we count Current Customers as any customer that has ordered in the past 4 weeks. I have a couple of calculated fields to help me determine Account Status. The first calculated field, called Weeks Since Last Delivery, determines how many weeks it's been since a customer has ordered. It looks like this: ([Week Last Delivery]-[Current Week])/7*-1 I then have a calculated field called Account Status that categorizes the customer based on how long it's been since that last delivery. It looks like this: if [weeks since last delivery]<=8and [weeks since last delivery]>=4then "Trouble"ELSEIF [weeks since last delivery]>8then "Lost"else "Current" END This works as a snapshot view of account status as of the current date. My issue is that I can't figure out how to track Account Status over time. So, I have 268 Current Customers today but I can't figure out

  • Issue#710526: Tableau - How to handle multiple number formats in one field?

Hi everyone, this is my first post, so please bear with me.... I have a need to create a simple data table to accompany visualizations. I'm having multiple problems, but the first one is this: I have multiple fields with two different number formats. The data contains records with names, denominators, numerators (either # or $, depending on the record), targets (either % or %), and actuals (% or $)  This is the way the data comes in, so it's not too practical to reformat the source data. In the past, I've made simple tables in excel organized thusly: --------------numerator------denominator--------actual-------target--------achievementname1---------###--------------####-----------------%------------%-----------------%name2---------$$$--------------####-----------------$$-----------$$-----------------%name3---------###--------------####-----------------%------------%-----------------% as well as charts with more than one y axis, so the money gets plotted against

  • Issue#849828: Tableau - Formatting Time and Date for a forecast

Good Afternoon, I am attempting a forecast in Tableau 9.3 and I am having trouble formatting the date to provide an accurate forecast. I convert the date from discrete to continuous, but all my forecasts end up being horizontal lines, as seen in the below.  My date formatting mirrors what I see in the my superstore dataset, with the exception of the x-axis; my data in the image below appears to be broken out by month (on the x-axis), while the superstore data appears to be broken out be year.  I ultimately want my data to reflect change and forecast from month-to-month, but is there something I need to do with the axes?   I have also attached an excel doc with the date formatting included and stripped-down data.  Thank you

  • Issue#943148: Tableau - Filtering on total number by segment for a given time period

I have a stacked area chart showing number of products bought per type. Now I want to break this out by promocode. The issue is we have 100s of promocodes and most of them have barely any data. How would I filter it down so I only show promo codes that have a significant number of sales (say 100 or more) for the time period? I don't want to filter out data points, I want to filter out the promocode completely if it doesn't have a total of a 100 or more sales for the period. This is just an example, but I often find myself looking to do this and I'm not sure how to go about it.  So here any row (promocode) with less than 100 sales would be filtered out completely. A big bonus would be to be able to sort this by total sales in the time period, so the rows with the most data show up on top

Hi all, I'm relatively new to Tableau so please forgive me if this question has been answered or is 'an easy one'. My data contains a number of different phone/call lines which our customers call us on. My aim is to display call stats per line but also the total time on each phone line, the total/average waiting times, etc... I have connected to my data fine. The data in the time columns (lets say duration of call for instance (Active Time column), displays the time in the following format: DD/MM/YYYY hh:mm:ss - the time part of the field is correct and displaying what I expect. My issue is stripping the date from this field and then having the ability to sum/average/create calculations using the time. I have attached a screen shot below:   Taking row 1 for example, what I'd like to achieve is the below:  So far, I've been able to display and sum the number of calls per Service by date fine - but my problem is now displaying time/duration for each ser
